In this first post I'm reflecting my feelings and ideas about the Digital Business course after one week.

Beforehand I was absolutely terrified about the course because it was going to be in english. I had a 1,5 year break from the studies and I didn’t know anyone from the course, so it didn’t help my doubts about my performancing in the course. I seemed to be the only one who hadn’t met our two coaches Ilkka and Anna and I didn’t know what to expect from them. But from the very first minute they made me feel pretty comfortable about the language and all. for the very first time in this school I’m feeling pretty excited about some course and I even prefer that the course is in english. I have a good feeling that I’m actually going to learn a lot in this course and improve many of my skills, especially my english and digital skills which I both think are very important in working life.

The coaches put us into eight different teams and gave us our first weektask. There is six members in our group and I didn’t know any of them in advance. I’m the only girl in the team except our project manager Camilla, so at first I was a bit concerned how these young men were going to take me. But our team seems to be very nice and we have very similar feelings and goals about the course. The first mission for the teams was to concider and speculate how is technology improved by the year 2020.

Our teams brainstorm session

In our first lecture we had this student-visitor Laura Laukka, who had completed the same course six months earlier and she told us her experiences and feelings about the course. She gave me some picture of what was going to happen in these few months and according to her talks it was going to be some fun. Then we had this other guest speaker Ronja Salmi. I can find only one word to describe my feelings about her: WOW!!! I was absolutely impressed by this young 22-year old woman who have achieved so much already. Actually I recognised her from one children’s tv-show, but had no idea she has done so much in her life. She was a producer, journalist, screenwriter, editor, entrepreuner and lot of other things. She was so charismatic, inspirational, refreshing, open and first of all, NORMAL. We share some similar thoughts and values, she was for example talking about words like THANK YOU and I’M SORRY. Reminding that these little words matters much in working life as they do in our everyday life. It felt grazy that someone in so young age has so many stories to tell from her own experienced life. She made me believe that everything is possible, you just have to determinedly reach for your dreams, be open and kind and accept that sometimes the road to your goals isn’t the shortest one. So ones should never give up too easy. In her speech she also emphasized to always say YES when it comes to work and new possibilities! Because in the end it’s a lot about attitude, it can lead you far.

The second lecture was about making a blog and few of the groups was presenting their creations about this technology in 2020. Our group called Diginspiration was the lucky first one. We were so proud of what we had created so I think we didn’t mind to be the first ones. We had made this video with a narrator and we got very good feedback from it and its execution was something that hadn’t been done before in the course.

there was also three other presentations and one of them had a big influence to me. It was about SOME. It concidered about peoples daily use of social media and its affection for relationships and other parts of life. There was some sad statistic information for example how many hours per day people are useing their telephones in USA instead of spending time with their families and how accidents in traffic has increased after people has started to take “selfies”. The presentation contained a lot of sad facts but on the other hand with little changes it's possible to get rid of that so called some-addiction.

This was a great first week and with excitement I'm waiting for the next. So I'll be back soon.
